Director of Amazon Valley Academy

Amazon Valley Academy (AVA), located in Belém Brazil by the mouth of the Amazon River, is seeking a head of school who is a mature Christian, professional educator, and competent manager serving in the role of chief executive officer.  They will provide leadership and manage the operations of the school, with the goal of attaining the school’s objectives and effective ministry within the context provided by AVA’s institutional policy. A working knowledge of Portuguese is a tremendous plus as well as a functional understanding of the legal rules for operating an International school in Brazil. Candidates who do not hold Brazilian citizenship or have permanent residency must qualify for and receive a work visa to serve in this position.

AVA was founded in 1958 as a missionary school for foreign missionaries serving in northern Brazil and is presently managed by Believer’s Bridge, a U.S. mission organization. Over the years enrollment was expanded to include Brazilian nationals. Today about 75% of the student body is comprised of Brazilian students. AVA is accredited by ACSI and MSA. Classes are taught in English and follow the North American style of education.

AVA not only facilitates Kingdom work in Brazil by providing quality Christian education for the children of missionaries, others in ministry and the community at large, but it has a unique platform for reaching the privileged class of Belém with the Gospel, a constituency which typically does not seek access to evangelical churches and ministries. AVA is the only international school in the city of Belém and surrounding region, a reality that positions the school for substantial Kingdom impact under the leadership of the head of school.
